Grow Ministry

GROW MINISTRY

We are equipped to grow as Christian disciples through education, prayer, and spiritual formation.
Sunday School - Classes meet from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. There are classes available for all ages of children, youth, and adults. Classes for children and youth use United Methodist curriculum while adult classes cover a wide variety of subjects with topics usually changing on a quarterly basis. There are currently three adult Sunday school classes: Damascus Road, Galatians 3 and the Resurrection Class.

Nursery – child care is provided during both Sunday school and worship.

Children’s Sunday School: Age 4-5th grade (Rm 105)
Children experience a lesson taken from scripture and taught through a variety of means, including hands-on activities. The curriculum used is One Room Sunday School, and is specifically designed to have children of multiple age groups learning together in one room. (Contact person: Jessica Petersen)

Youth Sunday School: 6th-12th grade (Room 102)
Youth will work through a study entitled Claim the Life: Journey. The topics in this study focus on loving God, making faithful decisions, loving others, dealing with life’s difficulties, and developing Christian character—all hallmarks of the Christian journey. (Contact Person: Jessica Petersen)

Adult Sunday School Classes
Damascus Road Class - This class will begin a six week study entitled “Three Simple Rules for Christian Living.” Six sessions provide extended reflection for adults on three principles of Christian life: do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God. This small-group study is based on Rueben P. Job's book Three Simple Rules: A Wesleyan Way of Living. (Contact people: Elaine and Jimmy Truckner/Gail and Mike Barrett) Meets in Room 103.

Adult Bible Study Class - This class uses Cokesbury’s quarterly adult Bible study material. This study begins with a focus on the biblical text and then moves to reflection on personal, family, church, and community concerns, engaging the biblical text in a way that helps participants apply it to daily life. (Contact person: Mike Malone) Meets in the Sanctuary.

The Galatians 3 Sunday School - This class will continue to meet in the new year. The class will explore what it means that, as followers of Jesus Christ, the distinctions we humans have created to divide ourselves begin to disappear -- with a particular focus on racial divisions. We will seek to discover together what Jesus means when he said that the new wine of the Gospel needs new wineskins (and the old wineskins must be tossed away).
There will be some changes to the class’s format from prior years:
1) The class will have open membership so that folks who may not start the year with the class can join in throughout the year.
2) We will study the Book of Acts (which deals with prejudices between Jews and Gentiles) and its insights into relevant contemporary movies.
